Environment

In creating our new Sardinian home, we have tried to keep things natural. The house itself is a simple layout, is constructed of local stone, and finished with rustic plaster, marble floors, and wooden doors and windows of decent quality.

IMG_7469When refurbishing the house we have retained all the original features, and are happy with natural signs of ageing and wear, as we feel that they add to the character and beauty of the home. Where updating or renewing we have tried to use locally sourced materials wherever possible eg. the kitchen tiles are from a Sardinian factory, and the granite worktop was created and cut just down the road.

And generally in furnishing and fitting out  we have tried to focus on buying locally, or where that has not been possible, to obtain recycled and re-used items. For example – the glasses and sideplates are recycled glass – and much of the furniture is Victorian, giving the house a lived-in feel.

We have tried to avoid the use of plastic and petrochemical based materials, and have instead opted for natural materials – cotton, bamboo, glass, wood.

We ask that our guests make use of the local recycling facilities, which can be found in the nearby village of Modditonalza.
